Experimental studies in rodents

Subject of our animal studies is the role of the endogenous cannabinoid system and the cerebral energy metabolism as well as their interaction in models for aspects of psychiatric conditions. In our translational research approach, disorders of social behavior, cognition and motion of rats are experimentally induced in various ways. It is then possible to register relevant changes in behavior as well as its effect on the endocannabinoid system and the cerebral energy metabolism. We are doing that with various invasive and non-invasive examination techniques. Examples are the animal PET or the examination of the concentration of endocannabinoids and related fatty acids in body fluids of the rats. Furthermore influences of established and recent pharmacotherapeutic interventions can be examined in more detail.
